Blockheads ~ Block 25

Blockheads ~ Block 25

Because it's Blockhead Wednesday and since the moon was "blocking" the sun... did you see the eclipse?

The caption on this photo reads - the moon transits across the Sun in this picture from Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite.  (I found the image here.)

I hope that you got to see just a little bit of the eclipse - through NASA-approved glasses, of course.  I didn't see much of it but I enjoyed seeing the little crescent reflections - they looked like tiny crescent-shaped glitter.  I'll do better when Dallas, Texas is in the path of "totality" on April 8, 2024.

It's Blockheads Wednesday, version 25.  Today's block is Twice The Friendship from Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles.

This Blue Reproduction block includes fabrics from Snowberry by 3 Sisters, Rachel Remembered by Betsy Chutchian and Fern Hill by Jan Patek.

This is Tammy’s Twice The Friendship block – the background is from Miniature Gatherings Backgrounds by Primitive Gatherings.

For my Fig Tree & Co. block, the fabrics are from the Farmhouse and Chestnut Street collections and the background is from the “in shops now” Ann's Arbor by Minick & Simpson.

After making this block, I decided to make one more little change...

Still Farmhouse and Chestnut Street collections by Fig Tree & Co., now with one of my favorite backgrounds, these tiny stars are from Liberty Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings.

Question of the Week ~ Have I decided on a setting? And is there anything I’d change about my fabric selection?

I have decided on a setting! But I might still change my mind.

Four Blockheads blocks would be joined with sashing to make a single block that measured 15" finished size.  The blocks would be separated by a flying geese sashing.  Because I tend to prefer square quilts - I'm odd that way - I decided to make sixteen blocks, meaning I would need a total of 64 - 6" blocks.  Easily done - I'll just make more than one of my favorites.  I’d originally planned to use the same setting for both sets of blocks but now I’m wavering on that... except I already have almost all of my flying geese made so I might not waver long.

As for changing my fabric selection, the only change I would make would be to the Blue Reproduction blocks.  I would have started adding bits of yellow and red to some of the blocks a little earlier. Because I’m going to need extra blocks, I will be able add yellow to those blocks and mix them in with the blocks from the first couple of months.

Don't forget that there is a Blockheads Archive with links to all of the published blocks and blog posts.

That's it for today, August 23.  Be sure to visit Lisa, Jo, Betsy and Jan to see their blocks and what other good things they might have made:

Be sure to see the blocks being posted to #modablockheads on Instagram and Facebook. If you're not already a member, you can also join the fun in the Moda Blockheads Facebook group.  It's a busy group with folks sharing tips, suggestions and support.

Happy Blockhead Wednesday v.25!
