Jelly Filled – Jelly Rolled!

We have been W.A.I.T.I.N.G. for this book to arrive! It was scheduled to be published-released September 23rd but sometimes, when you’re very, very patient (not!)… good things happen.

After her first book, Charm School – 18 Quilts from 5″ Squares was so fantastic, we knew this was going to be good. Charm School has been a hugely popular, perennial best-seller since it was published in March 2017. Now, after two-and-a-half very, very long years, we finally have Jelly Filled – 18 Quilts from 2-1/2″ Strips.

Here’s a sneak peek of the Table of Contents – and some of the quilts.

(Ignore that watermark – C&T kindly send me an e-book copy and a screenshot was the best way to give you a quick preview.)

We love that Vanessa has included favorite tools, tips and ways to substitute for strips if you don’t have a Jelly Roll. Or if your favorite way to quilt is with a big pile of scraps. The quilts are also arranged according to difficulty level – Beginning quilts at the beginning, more challenging quilts as you work your way through. (Though really, don’t most of us just dive in?!?)

This is Checkerboard. It’s made with a Jelly Roll of Jen Kingwell’s Beach Road and Charmed, an aqua-ish shade of Grunge by BasicGrey. (That means that it’s mostly aqua but the grunge-part gives it texture and depth.) . Checkerboard finishes at 76″ x 76″. (It was pieced and quilted by Miriam Rawson.)

Sprinkles on Top – measuring 70″ x 84″, this strip-pieced quilt is made with Catnip by Gingiber. It was pieced by April Rosenthal and quilted by Kaitlyn Howell.

Pieced by Vanessa and quilted by Natalia Bonner, this is Heartthrob. And it’s a heart-stealer! It’s made with Vanessa’s Garden Variety collection – 1 Jelly Roll, a couple of Fat Quarters and some yardage. It measures 76″ x 76″. (You’ll need the book to see how the leftovers were used on the backing – clever!)

Cookie Cutter. Made with Return to Winter’s Lane by Kate & Birdie, this 72″ x 72″ quilt was pieced by Vanessa and quilted by Natalia Bonner. Yes, those triangles are made with Jelly Roll strips.

Potluck! It’s 72″ x 72″ and it’s made entirely with strip-piecing. Except for the star. Vanessa pieced this quilt with Feed Sacks in True Blue by Linzee Kull McCray, and it was quilted by Marion Bott.

And finally… Hey Cupcake!

A Jelly Roll of V & Co.’s Ombré Confetti Metallics, Picnic Grunge by BasicGrey – that’s what Vanessa used to make Hey Cupcake. Yes, that is a bit of curved piecing in there but not to worry, Vanessa shares her tips. This finishes at 88″ x 88″.

These are only six of the eighteen quilts but I think you get the idea – there is an amazing variety of patterns and styles included in this book.

Jelly Filled. It’s a keeper. (And a must-have.)

Thank you Vanessa!

  1. I absolutely love this !!! Unless I somehow missed it. And that a good possibility. I can’t find where to purchase this or when it’s available to purchase. Can you help me please???

    1. Hi Daphne – Ask at your favorite quilt shop! If they don’t already have it, it might be on the way, or they can order it for you. Jelly Filled was just published two weeks ago so it’s on the way to many shops. 🙂

    1. No, it doesn’t, all eighteen quilts in Jelly Filled were designed by Vanessa Goertzen. Let’s Dance is a shop-exclusive pattern that you’ll be able to get at your favorite quilt shop starting on Saturday, September 21.

      1. Thank you so much. Once I looked closer I realized I had read it wrong. If my local quilt shops do not carry the Lets Dance pattern, will it be available anywhere online? Thanks so much.

  2. Wow! Love these quilts, the colors used, etc. I was surprised it was a C&T book rather than a Martingale book since they seem to publish most of the Moda designers’ books. I’ll definitely keep it on my “want” list! Thanks for sharing! ❤

  3. Thanks for the sneak peek! I was just looking at Vanessa’s charm pack book online, thinking how clever she is. This book is sure to be a delight as well.

  4. This book looks awesome!! I have a number of jelly rolls (and, a bin of “scrap” 2 1/2″ strips)… This would help me reduce my stash (and, therefore leave me more storage space for all the new fabrics coming out!!)

We love to hear from you...
