Piece & Comfort...

United Notions and Moda Fabrics are very much about family - immediate, indirect, extended and "just because we like you".  So when it comes to helping part of the family with something that's near-and-dear to them, it isn't a question of "if", it's a matter of "what do you need and how can we help?"

Piece & Comfort Rocks!

We didn't plan it this way but sometimes the timing just works... today is the 70th Anniversary of VE Day.  It is also National Military Spouse Appreciation Day. We had a bumpy start and a few technical glitches but in the end, we're thrilled with how this Challenge went. Launch control...

I was eight when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and like a lot of folks, I loved the idea of riding a rocket somewhere.  It might have been the speed of it all, or maybe the adventure.  Whatever the reason, I always wondered what it would be like to be launched into space at more than 17,000 mph. 2016 by the numbers...

Starting with... how many quilts did some folks make? Folks.  The Moda Designers.  I asked them several questions - I'm a nosy sort.  I did it for you - I figured you'd be curious too. This is what I asked - and no, they weren't required to answer all the questions:

Oh my... Oh, Scrap!

Someone once asked me why I loved scrap quilts.  My answer was kind of silly... but it was also true.  Not one of us is one "thing".  We're daughters and sons, parents and spouses, friends and co-workers.  We're painters and stitchers, bakers and builders, and so on.  Each of us is a scrap quilt, a patchwork of diverse experiences and memories, quirks and talents, flaws and blessings.

Needle and thread...

It's what makes a quilt a quilt - the stitching that joins the three layers of the top-batting-backing sandwich. That's Butterfly Kisses by Pat Sloan - Mini Marvels.

Taking a workshop that's "not my style"

Lynne showing us her Twisted quilt. Last Monday I attended a workshop and it was a great reminder of how much we quilters love to learn new ways to do things. My guild sponsored a daylong class with Moda designer Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles, where she taught us the techniques behind her new Twisted quilt.
