It could happen.

Now that we can finally knock over that big can of beans and spill them all over the table, here's what's going on - we are over-the-moon excited to announce that we're partnering with Spoonflower in their annual Fabric8 Contest!

Cutting-Table---Fabric8-Banner

The Grand Prize?  The winner will have the opportunity to see their designs produced as a collection for Moda Fabrics - to see their name on a Moda selvage.

This year's theme is Botanical Sketchbook.

Take some time to stop, smell and then draw flowers!  Or weeds.  Trees too.  If it grows, it's botanical.  Right?

We're looking for designs that remind us of the botanical drawings you'd make in a sketchbook or journal after a trip to a tropical forest, the desert or through your neighborhood.

Even though the pictures I'm including here are of flowers, that isn't required.  Nor is there a right or wrong approach to creating your artwork - just make sure that the design submitted is original work - meaning, it's not been published before, contain any logos/photos/characters/clip-art or other non-original images or ideas.

Can anybody enter?  Absolutely!  You need to be a registered member of Spoonflower - and no, it doesn't cost anything to join.  You also need to be 13 years old as of August 18, 2015, or have the written permission from your parents or  guardians.  The contest is open to residents of most foreign countries.  (For more Frequently Asked Questions...)

(Employees, officers, directors and representatives of Moda Fabrics, United Notions and Spoonflower are ineligible, as are their immediate family members and any persons living in the same households as the aforementioned ineligible people.  Requisite legal mumbo jumbo.)

How will it all work?  The contest will close to entries on Tuesday, August 18th at 6:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time.  Between August 18th and August 25th, a panel from Moda Fabrics and Spoonflower will select 100 semifinalists from the designs submitted.  (Those decisions will be final.)  Voting on the semifinalists will begin August 27th and end on September 2nd.  On September 3rd, eight finalists will be announced based on the designs that receive the highest number of votes.

The eight finalists will have until October 1st to submit three additional designs to complete their "collection".  Voting for the collections will begin October 8th and end October 14th.  The winner will be announced on October 15th.

Are you ready?  You've got a little over a month to take the first step to being Moda's next new designer so get busy...  Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake City is just around the corner.

(I couldn't resist.)

Good luck!
