Happy National Quilting Day

Happy National Quilting Day! Although I try to make every day a quilting day at my house...it is kind of fun to think about the fact that today is the day especially designated for quilters to do what they love most--quilt!

I have a few projects I plan to finish up today, and I also plan to start something new--just because it's National Quilting Day. First of all I need to hand-stitch the binding on the quilt above. This was one of those quilts I "wasn't going to make."

Yes, the quilt I need to bind is my "Spell it with Fabric" Quilt from the recent Moda blog hop. And I thought at first that I could resist joining in the fun by simply making a mini quilt with my initial.  I was wrong--all it took was one letter, and I was determined to make the entire quilt.

I used Jelly Roll strips and bits and pieces from many of the Bonnie & Camille fabric collections to piece my quilt. My sashing is Moda Bella Bleached White 9900-97. If you've been quilting along, then you know how much fun this quilt is!

I'm using the navy bias stripe from April Showers for my binding.

I've been taking pictures of this quilt like crazy...and I'm pretty sure I'll take more when the binding is complete.

Since it's National Quilting Day--and  because I've fallen head over heels with mini quilts--I'm also going to start a new mini today. I love these little quilts. They are perfect for decorating your sewing room, and they also make perfect pillow fronts and table toppers. This is my most recent mini finish, Mini Round and Round by Camille. It was fun using up scraps for this fun project, and I love how Moda Bella Aqua (34) worked as a background.

I'm also hoping to start something fun with this bundle (if I can bring myself to untie it). Color Me Happy by V & Co. is in stores now--it's a perfect collection for welcoming spring and for celebrating National Quilting Day.

I had fun playing with this collection earlier this week when I used two Moda Candy packs to make a spring table runner. I definitely need to make a bigger project with these fabrics (by the way, that is Moda Bella Aqua 34 I've used for the backing and binding of this runner--it looks wonderful with this collection).

So, what are you going to do to celebrate National Quilting Day? I highly recommend putting something in the crock pot so you can spend as much time as possible quilting today!
